Pope Francis, who is an official member of San Lorenzo de Almagro, has caused a sensation on social media by sharing his membership in the club. Although San Lorenzo is currently in 12th place in the Primera Division, the presence of the Pope could inspire improvements in their results.
In Manila, Philippines, on March 14, 2013, it was announced that Jorge Bergoglio, an Argentine, would become the new Pope of the Catholic Church. However, what many did not know is that Pope Francis is a die-hard football fan, and not just a regular sports supporter. He is an official member of Club Atlético San Lorenzo de Almagro, a team in the Primera Division of Argentina.
When the Habemus Papam announcement was made in the Vatican City, San Lorenzo de Almagro celebrated on Twitter, sharing their joy of having one of the most powerful persons on the planet supporting them. In their Twitter account, the club posted an image of Pope Francis's membership card:

'It is an honor for the Institution to know that the first South American Pope is a member of #San Lorenzo de Almagro,' wrote the club in their tweet. Although San Lorenzo is currently in 12th place in the Primera Division, the presence of the Pope could inspire improvements in their results. And while we are at it, are we finally gonna see Messi bring the next World Cup to Argentina?
