San Lorenzo de Almagro has finalized an agreement to pay off a debt of 1,082,976 dollars to twin brothers Ángel and Óscar Romero. The deal, reported by Ole, ensures the club will not face future sanctions and closes a chapter left by the previous administration.
The debt originated during the tenure of Sergio Constantino, who almost completely failed to comply with an agreement signed on January 16 of this year. That initial payment schedule included an initial installment and others due in March, April, May, and June, plus penalties and interest for default. Only the initial payment and half of the March installment were paid, leaving the rest outstanding.
How was the financial conflict resolved?
Upon taking over, the new administration led by president Marcelo Culotta decided to regularize the situation immediately. They first completed the pending payment for the first March installment. Then, they made a payment of 20,000 dollars to each of the Romero brothers to cancel the penalties from the original agreement. With that done, they opened a new negotiation for the remaining debt, which stood at 718,482 dollars.
The new agreement commits San Lorenzo to pay that sum during Culotta's term, with a final deadline set for November 15, 2027. The club recognized the interest established by FIFA but succeeded in having the penalties and other sanctions from the previous pact eliminated. “The agreement for debts ensures the entity will not be inhibited in the future,” stated an official club communiqué.
