San Lorenzo de Almagro sacked manager Guillermo Franco and faces an $800,000 embargo over a debt claim by former player Francisco Fydriszewski, who made only four appearances for the club. The decision followed a 3-0 loss to Defensa y Justicia in Florencio Varela on October 3, although the club described it as a mutual agreement. Franco had taken over in late May after Gustavo Álvarez resigned and short spells by Néstor Gorosito and Walter Perazzo. The Corrientes-born, Mexico-naturalised coach had played for San Lorenzo from 1995 to 2002, winning the Clausura and Copa Mercosur in 2001. When asked, Franco said: "I return home from another place, with another experience, another perspective, but the same passion as ever." He was joined by Martín Saric in overseeing professional football, who will now continue in the role after Franco’s departure, as the club opted not to hire a replacement. The embargo stems from a French judicial retention of $800,000 on a $2.25 million payment for Paraguayan goalkeeper Orlando Gill, due to a claim by Fydriszewski for $1,468,504.32. The Paraguayo had agreed with then-president Marcelo Moretti on an initial $100,000 payment and two $400,000 instalments, of which only the first was paid. Current interim president Sergio Costantino failed to meet the remaining obligations, triggering the embargo. San Lorenzo also faces other claims, including Ignacio Piatti’s for $4,369,889.11, after rejecting an offer comprising cash, a share of future player sales and TV rights. On the pitch, San Lorenzo sit 12th in Liga Profesional Argentina with 11 points from 11 games (3W-2D-6L), a goal difference of -7 having scored four and conceded 11. Their last result was a 3-0 loss to Defensa y Justicia, and their next fixture is at home to Deportivo Riestra on October 11, a side currently 11th. The last meeting between the sides ended 1-1 on July 17. Regarding recent form, the team has earned only one point from their last nine matches.
