Former San Lorenzo de Almagro defender Nicolás Hernández was involved in a traffic accident on Thursday in the Colombian city of Cali. A tree fell on his vehicle due to heavy afternoon rainfall, his current club América de Cali confirmed.

América de Cali released an official statement to provide an update on the player's condition. "América de Cali confirms that our player Nicolás Hernández suffered an accident while driving his vehicle, after a tree fell on it due to the heavy downpour in the afternoon," the club said. The medical report added that "the footballer is out of danger and has trauma in his right knee."

Hernández, 29, spent time at San Lorenzo de Almagro during the first half of 2024. He failed to establish himself as a regular starter under manager Pipi Romagnoli and later signed for Banfield, where he spent one season. In mid-2025 he joined América de Cali, his current team. His career also includes spells at Atlético Nacional, Real Santander, Independiente Santa Fe, Athletico Paranaense and Inter de Porto Alegre.

The incident occurs as San Lorenzo de Almagro are going through a difficult period in the Liga Profesional Argentina. The team sits 12th with 11 points after 11 games, with a record of three wins, two draws and six defeats. Their next fixture is at home against Deportivo Riestra, an opponent positioned just above them in 11th place.
